Cameron Parish Highpoint Trip Report
Date: April 3, 2003

This one is in the West Hackberry oil field, at the West Hackberry Petroleum Reserve. Hackberry has been
one of the largest oil fields on the Gulf Coast for many years. The reserve is guarded by the Army.
From exit 20 on I10, drive 17 miles south on LA27 to Hackberry. Turn right and drive west on road 390,
which is Main Street. Drive 1 3/4 mile west, 1/2 mile north, and then west. Here we met the Army
blockade, and had to convince the soldiers that we had a useful purpose to continue and that we posed no
threat to the oil reserve.
We then drove west to a T, and turned right to go north to the road hp. This offered access to the western
part of the contour, by walking in the field east from the road. The eastern part of the contour is fenced and
it might take further effort to gain permission to enter. However, the high point in the field at the western
part of the contour appears to be as high or higher than anything that could be leveled on inside the fencing.
Much of that land had been graded and built upon.
