1a. LiDAR -- 10 Missouri Counties From: Andy Hatzos Date: Sat, 07 Dec 2024 02:49:16 MST Found myself with a little bit of time to look at LiDAR in Missouri. Ten quick writeups to follow... --------------------------------------- Schuyler MO (pb) First, full credit to Chris G, whose LiDAR spreadsheet already mentioned this one. I will back up Chris's analysis. The infamous 100+ contour Schuyler County MO has a single winner. The HP is in the western part of PB Area 1. HP: 1008.6 ft at N40.372063 W92.592613 The second place point in the county is PB Area 5 (1006.9 ft at N40.374862 W92.599453) with nothing else really in contention. Data quality on both of these points looks good. Elsewhere, there are some small-scale rises in Queen City that appear clearly artificial to me. (LiDAR: 2021 Northern SEMO) --------------------------------------- Shelby MO (pb) Originally 10 areas. Can confirm that PB Area 7 is the single winner. HP: 855.2 ft at N39.926620 W92.288015 PB Area 10: 849.4 ft PB Areas 8/9: 848.4 ft PB Areas 1-6: highest point is the northern lobe of Area 1 at 850.5 ft (LiDAR: 2021 Northern SEMO) --------------------------------------- Scotland MO (pb) Originally 7 areas. Can confirm PB Area 1 (the far southwest corner of the county) is the single winner. HP: 906.1 ft at N40.302766 W92.349900 on the road surface at the corner, 905.4 ft at N40.302844 W92.349760 for more natural terrain at the edge of the field PB Area 3 is the second place spot at 903.5 ft. The highest elevation I found in any of the other areas is only 901.5 ft. (LiDAR: 2021 Northern SEMO) --------------------------------------- Knox MO (pb) Originally 9 areas. There are three distinct spots that must be visited -- two within the original Area 3, one within the original Area 8. PB Area 3 North Lobe: 912.6 ft at N40.257717 W92.348448 PB Area 3 South Lobe: 912.6 ft at N40.253289 W92.347694 PB Area 8: 912.5 ft at N40.181842 W92.343725 The above three are too close to call. However, all other areas have been eliminated, with nothing higher than about 911 feet. (LiDAR: 2021 Northern SEMO) --------------------------------------- Putnam MO (pb) One original contour, confirmed as the winner. HP: 1099.9 ft at N40.579539 W93.257733 (LiDAR: 2021 Northern SEMO) --------------------------------------- Chariton MO (pb) One original contour, confirmed as the winner. To be a little pedantic with this one, the highest point is on a property line that looks like it was slightly raised, so I'll also list a separate point about 100 feet SW that looks fully natural. HP on the line: 879.3 ft at N39.699607 W92.816223 HP in the field: 878.5 ft at N39.699336 W92.816435 (LiDAR: 2019 West Central Missouri) --------------------------------------- Marion MO (pb) Originally 17 areas, and can be eliminated down to a single area within PB Area 1. This original contour is a large, sprawling contour that includes the Hannibal Regional Airport. However, the highest point within this contour is on a farm to the west of the airport property. HP: 778.4 ft at N39.722935 W91.454275 The next highest point in the large cluster of areas near the airport is 774.1 feet. The highest point in the single area a little southwest of there (PB Area 12) is 767.3 feet. The highest point in the cluster of areas much further west (PB Areas 13-17) is 764.6 feet. (LiDAR: 2021 Northern SEMO) --------------------------------------- Camden MO (pb) One original contour, confirmed as the winner. HP: 1254.4 ft at N37.802295 W92.550911 (LiDAR: 2017 FEMA R7) --------------------------------------- Warren MO (pb) Originally 12 areas. This can be eliminated down to two separate spots about 375 feet apart within PB Area 3. HP1: 957.5 ft at N38.737276 W91.211827 HP2: 958.2 ft at N38.737834 W91.211113 While HP2 is higher on this LiDAR DEM, the LiDAR was acquired before a new road was built atop the hill. The terrain may have been altered. Thus, HP1 should also be visited. All other areas are eliminated. The next highest point within the southern cluster of areas is about 953 feet. The highest point in the northern cluster of areas is 949 feet. (LiDAR: 2019 West Central Missouri) --------------------------------------- St Charles MO (pb) Originally 4 areas. A single winner (PB Area 1) has been declared. HP: 901.0 ft at N38.610897 W90.914505 The next highest of the other areas is 899.4 feet. (LiDAR: 2019 West Central Missouri) --------------------------------------- Thanks, --Andy H
