Barnstable County High Point Trip Report
Pine Hill (306 ft)
Date: June 2000
Author: Dave Covill
Called a day ahead, got private, he said no problem. Returned Friday, made it to base HQ, called Capt.
Glenn Morin, he said come on over to Gunnery Range bldg. Did so. He's now Major Morin, has 2 years
to go to retire, likes HP'ers, thinks we're all nuts though. Anyone can go, call first, may be a problem if
they're doing something soldier-like, not likely. From highway to Falmouth from Bourne Bridge, go
down to mini- rotary ~ 5 miles, sign for national cemetery, Edwards Guard base, Otis Air Base. Turn in,
go ~ 2 miles, past cemetery, turn left on road signed for Gunnery Operations. Go 3 miles on windy paved
road, obvious destination stop. Pull in. HP is ~ 2-300' up road, sandy lane to right, up ~ 100', 20' of
vertical from road. Other contour candidate is across road. We all went there, Morin just to amuse us.
Leveled over to Pine Hill, it appears a good 5-10' higher, ~ 500' away across road. Too many trees to tell
for sure. Looked higher from Pine Hill back at lower one, pretty sure it's the HP. No other area seemed as
high, although there is not a lot of relief there. Many vehicles, mostly Hummers, scooting about. Phone #
is 508-968-5925.
