Hampden County Highpoint Trip Report
Round Top Hill
Date: October 18, 2007
Author: Dave Dunham
The previous trip reports are still accurate. We took Round Hill Road (south)
from Route 20 and drove almost the entire length of the road. The cemetery
seemed like an excellent spot to park.
We headed out almost directly north and followed a stone wall for the first 200
feet of climb. The forest was very open and the going was fairly easy.
We reached the summit in 20 minutes, traveling about 0.4 mile. After signing in we
decided to take the white blazed trail down. It tends to wind but is clearly marked.
We reached the road and I measured the trailhead to be 100 meters north
of the junction of Round hill road and the state forest road.
It took 22 minutes to descend to the car from the summit.
Although I did not see a gate on either end of Round Hill Road, there were signs
posted at each end which stated "Road closed Nov. 1 - Apr. 15".
