Middlesex County High Point Trip Report
800 feet northeast of Nutting Hill (1580+ ft)

Take MA 119 west from its junction with MA 101 for 1.3 miles to a parking area signed "Midstate Trail."
At the trailhead is a sign for Nutting Hill (1.9 miles), but this is the long way via Mount Watatic. The
route described here bypasses Watatic. Follow the yellow trail into the woods. After 1/4 mile, the yellow
trail, signed as both the Midstate and Wapack Trails, turns right and heads for Mount Watatic. Continue
straight ahead on the now blue-blazed trail. Perhaps another 1/2 to 3/4 miles further, near the crest, the
blue trail, again signed as the Midstate Trail (!), bears left, and you continue straight ahead, following the
sign and yellow blazes to "Wapack Trail 0.6." Once on the crest, the yellow trail turns right toward
Nutting Hill, only about 200 yards distant. About 100 feet before the first bare rocks, an unmarked trail
cuts left (NNE) and downhill, crosses a muddy area, then goes uphill to a low knoll. Where the trail
crests, an old rock wall probably marks the county line. I paced the distance back to Nutting Hill to verify
this was indeed the correct knoll.
