Norfolk County Highpoint Trip Report
Great Blue Hill
Date: April 19, 2008
Author: Ben Carl
We could see Great Blue Hill in the distance as we were going north on I-95 and
it looked imposing. However, as you get off exit 2 on I-93, it looks much less imposing.
Go north past the ski area and the museum to the hiker parking lot on the right.
We began at 2:15pm, hiking a gentle gravel trail generally east for maybe an 1/8
of a mile and you come out on a paved road that is closed to public traffic.
Follow this road to the top, gaining 300 feet in about half a mile. The highest
point is occupied by a weather observatory. We walked around the perimeter of
the observatory and we also walked around the interior of the steel fence as well.
Good view to the south but no view of Boston from here.
There is an observation tower north of the summit that has views of the Boston
skyline but we didn't take the time to hit it, as we were in a bit of a hurry.
Back to the car by 3 p.m.
