From the junction of MD routes 566 and 292 in Still Pond, go north 1.7 miles on MD 292 to a left turn
onto Still Pond Neck Road. Pass the light tower shown on the topo at 2.6 miles, and crest a low ridge line
at 3.1 miles. There is a private home next to a microwave tower on the north side of the road, and the
highest ground looks to be in the middle of the front lawn. On the south side of the road, the low ridge
continues through a narrow patch of woods and continues into a farm field. The exact site of spot
elevation 102' was impossible to determine, so I wandered to all likely spots, even walking to the higher-
looking far side of the field that did not seem higher looking back toward the road. The woods were full
of poison ivy and briars, so in summer use a field road slightly further west for easier access to the field.
The field itself showed corn debris from last season, but is now planted in what looked like alfalfa, so
passage through it will be easier this summer. For the birdwatchers, there is an active osprey nest on a
platform about half way up the light tower at 2.6 miles. I was able to spot one bird on the nest and the
other perched on top of the tower. No sign of chicks yet.
