Wicomico County Highpoint Trip Report
two points (90-94 ft)
Date: December 27, 2005
Author: Don Desrosiers
This county is locally pronounced "why COM ick koh", although you will hear
people on the western side of the Bay say "wi COMB ick koh" with the first
syllable as in "with".
I came into Parsonsburg from the south, off of U.S. 50, so I leave that part as
an exercise for the reader.
The point in the cemetery seemed obvious and was near the small fenced in area
close to the church building. I say this because the names "Smith" and
"Wimbrow" are fairly common here.
To get to the point north of town, the road desired is only signed as
Parsonsburg Road. Otherwise, you should be good to go. The briars near the HP
have come in with a vengeance, so long pants would be considered a must.
Did not look for the grave site to the north because I was not having a particularly
good time right then.
As for the manmade point near Hebron, it is at the dump (OK, the Wicomico
Regional Landfill for those of us who are not dinosaurs). Per the folks in the office,
it was started in the 50's or 60's (they couldn't remember exactly) and
is currently 135 feet above sea level. I noted this point but otherwise ignored it.
