Cumberland County Highpoint Trip Report
Date: May 28, 2012
Author: Adam Helman
note: All coordinates are in the WGS84 datum.
This effort was part of a larger journey
collecting New England county highpoints in May 2012.
I hiked under the obvious ski lift on a true heading of roughly 200° from the parking lot, reaching the
ski lift top
at (44.04747° N, 70.82098° W) with a GPS-measured 1,752 foot elevation. This 1,250 foot elevation gain
consumed 36 minutes.
The east-west trail noted in Dave Covill's report is
400 feet south-southwest
at (44.04644° N, 70.82156° W). It wraps-around counterclockwise, surmounting thereby the rock band
immediately at-hand to one's south on reaching this point.
After initially taking the trail west it turns south, climbs, and reaches the summit plateau -
the counterclockwise motion noted above. At this point one may leave the trail
here
at (44.04539° N, 70.82268° W), only some 200 feet from the (non-liner) county highpoint.
Hiking east the cited amount now leads to the
highest ground
at (44.04543° N, 70.82195° W).
