Lapeer County Highpoint Trip Report
Mt Christie - BM Thomas (1,280+ ft)
Date: April 15, 2005
Author: Andy Hatzos
Mount Christie is the first highpoint we visited and it was an enjoyable (and easy) trip.
We approached from M-24 (Lapeer Road) and took Davison Lake Road to the west,
until we reached the Mount Christie Estates clubhouse. We parked
there and hiked across tennis courts and a field to get to the road mentioned in
the other trip reports. We saw that this road was, in fact, open.
We didn't mind the extra walk, though.
From there, it was an easy hike up the gravel road to the top. As mentioned
previously, there were no signs of the BM but instead a flagpole and gazebo
greeted us peacefully at the summit. It appears that the absolute highest point
is either underneath the gazebo, or about 5-10 feet to the northwest of it.
The view of the area was absolutely incredible in all directions but west.
I could see the Pontiac Silverdome, as well as the Pine Knob ski area. As this is
also the highest point in all of Michigan south of Saginaw Bay (tied with
Hillsdale County), Mount Christie is assuredly one of the area's best kept secrets.
