Koochiching County High Point Trip Report
Date: July 26, 1996

We found the Seventh Day Adventist Church southeast of Northome and hiked along the overgrown
unimproved road and found the western HP area pleasantly enough.
Then we set out for the eastern HP area of 1520+ feet. We found an ATV track at the north foot of the
chain of hills extending east and carefully paced the distance. When the ATV track petered out we tried to
bushwhack eastward. It took two or three passes, wandering about, before we found the broad topped
1510+ foot hill west of it. South of hill 1510+ is a thick marsh, and bushwhacking east from the ATV track
it is easy to be diverted onto the lesser ridge south of the marsh, trending southeast.
From the hill we can only say that we tried and that we probably got to the top of the eastern HP area.
On our bushwhack back to the cars we hiked on an old jeep track so long unused that four foot tall trees were
growing in the middle of it.
