Rock County High Point Trip Report
Hardwick BM (1,795 ft)
Date: June 23, 2001
Author: Richard L. Carey
Rock County is the most southwesterly county in Minnesota. The land has rolling hills with scattered farms
growing corn and soybeans. To reach the high point from Interstate 90 take the exit for the town of
Luverne and go north on route 75. Drive north on 75 for 9.4 miles and turn left (west) on route 7. Go west
for 3.0 miles and turn north on route 11. Go north 1.0 mile and turn right and drive maybe 0.2 miles and
park on the right opposite a radio tower to the south. There is a dilapidated fence here. Walk the short
distance to the high point, which is a broad knoll just south of the tower.
The area has broken up concrete in the grass and no benchmark could be found. The USGS says this should
be Hardwick benchmark with PID number OQ0697 placed in 1927.
The map for the area is Jasper SE, Minn., 1967.
