Find the community of Ruth on your Rand McNally map. Turn off Miss. State Hwy. 583 across from the
store, onto Gleenwood Rd., headed east. At 0.6 mi., the road forks; go left. Continue another 1.0 mi.
The fire tower shown on the maps is no longer present. A communications tower is. There are three dirt
turn-outs to the spot on the north side of the road here: use the third one (they're within mere tens of feet
of each other). This looks to be the original access to the fire tower. I'm told the state still owns the site,
though I can tell you sensitive deer hunters abound in the area. Walk the perimeter of the fence. Near the
north portion of the fence the ground appears higher than anything within. The BM can be seen within
the fence, but I'm confident it is no higher. There's at least one natural ground disturbance (blow-down
with stump) outside also that is higher.
Note that Walthall County's hp is only about five miles away.
