Sharkey County Highpoint Trip Report
Date: March 21, 2007
Author: Bill Jacobs
Andy Martin’s book lists three areas. Several additional areas may exist nearby.
All areas are on or near agricultural fields which probably have
undergone changes from years of plowing.
From the intersection of US 61, State 436, and Sharkey/Washington County line,
drive east into the farmer's field to Deer Creek. Walk south along the creek to
here.
The small area shown here on the topo is not evident, probably leveled by plowing.
Continue southeast along the creek - the bridge across Deer Creek shown on the
topo is no longer there. Where the creek bends to the left (east) is the
second area.
This area is in a farmer's field and there is no visual evidence of a rise.
The third area is across Deer Creek and can be reached by following US 61 north
from the county line for half a mile. Turn right onto a paved road from which
you can cross farm fields to the
third area.
Here there is evidence of some relief.
Other candidate areas
The 115-foot sighting at the intersection of US 61 and State 436 along the
county border is a bump in the roadway of State 436 and appears to be manmade.
The county line sign is 100 feet to the south on US 61. Suspect the sign is misplaced.
