Winston County High Point Trip Report
Date: January 25, 2001
Author: Fred Dale
Start at the intersection of state highways 25 & 19. Go NE on hwy. 25 about 2.1 mi., and turn right onto
the gravel Mars Hill Rd. Proceed 3.8 mi., en route bearing left at Old Mars Hill Church, to Walter Sisson Rd.
Here, turn left (NE). Go just 0.1 mi. and take the right fork (this forklet not indicated on the quad).
Now go 0.6 mi. and turn right onto Evon Stone Rd. Up ahead about 0.4 mi. you'll approach a chicken
house farm. Just past a small house and just before the chicken houses is a rough 4WD-when-wet road to
the left. Take it, making the left at the first fork (actually, straight). Continue through the cut-over lands
eastward. You'll see a prominent hill to your north as the really rough track comes to a saddle of sorts on
the brink of a sharp descent. Park.
The cohp is not the prominence seen, but eastward still into still-standing woods up a nicely-hiked ATV
trail steeply ascending eastward. Nice outcrops of sandstone, and great views at this most peak-like
Mississippi hill.
On this trip, also pick up Attala County.
