Chouteau County Highpoint Trip Report
Highwood Baldy (7,670 feet)
Date: July 8, 2008
Author: Adam Helman
This effort is part of a
larger journey
collecting Montana and Idaho county highpoints in July 2008.
After some 14 road miles from the highway, I camp and, by morning,
start hiking the road 2,400 vertical feet beneath summit, i.e.
about 15 minutes and 400 vertical feet below the locked gate.
The summit radio facility is a nice green; and I take a nap on getting there
as the sun is shining, it is warm, and, at only 8 a.m., there's plenty of time.
The time in-motion on ascent is 1 hour 27 minutes with an elapsed time of 1 hour 37 minutes.
The corresponding values for descent are 1 hour 15 minutes and 1 hour 17 minutes, respectively.
The round-trip duration is 3 hours 31 minutes (including about 40 minutes at the summit).
