Fort Stanwix National Monument Highpoint Trip Report
Date: October 13, 2011

This effort was part of a larger journey
to complete Vermont and reach the Ontario province highpoint in October 2011.
On a tip from John Mitchler I backtrack to Rome, New York on I-90 to trivially reach this monument highpoint.
I find that the history of this fort, and learning about it, was by far the more valuable experience.
When in Rome, avoid the garage parking fee by going to the nearby bank's lot - and located across
the street from the visitor center.
Circumambulate the fort on the well-manicured grass lawn to consider the highpoint as reached.
There are a few spots that appear higher along this path;
yet I cannot claim any specific one to be highest.
Fort Stanwix played prominently during the French and Indian Wars; and served as a vital trading center,
as a "Carrying Place" between the Huron-Erie River system to the west and the Mohawk-Hudson system
to the east. The visitor center provides all the details you'll ever want to learn.
