I was in the US Virgin Islands in late February 2003 for the first time. Unfortunately I didn't get the time to do the high points of St Thomas (Crown Mt) or St John (Bordeaux Mt). Next time I go back I will do them.

What I'd like to contribute is that these highpoints can be easily reached by taxi. That is the best way to get about the islands. I strongly discourage car rentals, not only the expense but you'd better be highly confident dealing with narrow roads and hairpin curves throughout both islands. The roads are wicked! Not for the faint of heart.

Crown Mt can be accessed from Cyril King Airport on St Thomas by a short taxi ride. Suppose to have some outstanding views at the summit.

Bordeaux Mt can be accessed by taking a $4 taxi ride to downtown Charlotte Amalie and then take a 45 minute ferry ride ($7) to Cruz Bay, St John. Cruz Bay has lots of nice restaurants and a tropical ambiance to go with it. The taxi ride to Bordeaux Mt is abot 5 miles and should run about $10 one way.

Then follow the directions given by John Garner.
