Alexander County Highpoint Trip Report

After spending the better part of the day hiking on this one earlier and not
ever finding it, I followed Fred Lobdell's information that there was a gravel
road all the way to the summit of Hickory Knob. I found this road as a branch
off of the Tree Farm house driveway. Where it branches off can only very
limitedly be seen from the house. Sure enough, it was a gravel road over five
miles to the exact summit of Hickory Knob, 1933 BM and all.
Limited views only in the winter. The driveway/gravel road was gated at the
road it is off of but the gate was open, as it was the last time I drove by it
in August not knowing it was a path to the HP. I had a conversation with a
hunter on four wheeler, who told me the home and landowner was not home and
lives in another house in Statesville. I followed him back to his house and he
gave me the persons name but didn't have the number. This was a waste of time,
since the persons name and number are all over the posted signs. After leaving
the hunters house, I returned to the gravel road. Saw three dear and an opossum.
