Peter Barr, in his report, says that he found the road to the summit discovered
by Fred Lobdell but gives no hint as to how to find it. I telephoned Fred who
dictated directions to me. Here are the directions as I experienced them.
From US 60 at Ellendale, NC turned off onto Old NC 90 going 1 mile west.
Then 3.5 miles on paved Dover Church Road (don't take Mount Ridge Road which is a
right turn off Dover Church Road and don't take Blair Road which goes straight
when Dover Church Road turns right) to Dover Church and end of pavement.
After 0.7 mile farther on Dover Church Road, turn right on driveway to Tree Farm.
Take immediate right and drive 4.5 miles right to the very summit.
You could even put your front bumper right over Hickory BM.
It appears that the tree farm people expect people to use that road but if
someone is there it might be a good idea to ask.
