Anson County High Point Trip Report
Gordon Mtn.

From the intersection of US 74 & NC 218 in the village of Polkton, go west on 74 about 0.2 miles.
Turn left (south) on Poplar Hill Church Rd. and take it to its end at a "T" intersecftion
(about 5 miles). Turn right (west) on White Store Rd. and go a half mile to where there
is a gated dirt road on the left. Park here. Hike up the dirt road as it climbs gently,
then more steeply for about a half mile to just below the former site of a lookout tower
at the (false) north summit of Gordon Mtn. Take the right (southwest) fork here and descend
to a saddle between the false and true summits, then climb up the road past a deer blind.
Above this the road bends to the northwest, then curves around to the southwest as it reaches
a height of land on the summit ridge.
From here it is a short, but not especially pleasant,
bushwhack to the summit to your left (southeast). The summit is overgrown with scrub trees
and raspberry bushes; wear long pants and sleeves. Allow about an hour for this one.
