Cabarrus County High Point Trip Report

Andy Martin's book lists four areas, on two maps, for Cabarrus, but really there are
only three areas, as one is shared by both maps.
From the intersection on NC rtes. 115 and 136 in Mooresville, go south on 136 about 6 miles.
Take the first left (east) after crossing the Cabarrus county line. (This may be Archer Rd.)
Go about 0.2 miles to an intersecting road on the left. Park here.
The high area will be the hill in the field on your right (south). It is not posted.
For the second area, return to NC 136 and turn left (south). Go about 0.3 miles to a dirt road
on your right (west) that leads into a golf course. This is perhaps the best approach to the
second area. Without being too obvious about it, find a place to park at the side of the
dirt road and walk up through the golf course to the west.
The highest area appears to be
in an automobile junk yard just south of the golf course. This junk yard is strongly fenced
on its south and east sides, but the north side, towards the golf course, is either unfenced
or inadequately so.
The third area is reached by continuing south on rte. 136 another 0.2 miles or so to the first
intersection on the right. (This may be Sugar Hill Rd.) Turn right (west) and go about 0.3
miles to the first intersection, which will be on the left (south). Park here and ascend the
high area to the south. The area occupied by houses and yards doesn't appear to be any higher
than the adjacent field.
