Harnett County High Point Trip Report
Big Ridge (490+ ft)
Date: January 1, 1999
Author: Fred Lobdell
The HP of Harnett County lies just south of NC routes 24 & 27, about a mile east-southeast of the junction
of Harnett, Lee, and Moore counties. It boasts a fenced FAA facility on top.
From the junction of US 1 with NC 24 & 27, go east on 24 & 27 about 6 miles. Big Ridge will be on your right,
covered with scrubby oaks and other vegetation. The third dirt road on your right should lead you to
the gate of the fenced FAA structure. Park here.
The highest point appears to be a little east of the fence. Walk around in this area until you have covered the
high ground. There are also two or three little hills south and southwest of the fenced area.
These appear to be manmade, but you will want to ascend these also just in case they're not.
