Haywood County High Point Trip Report
Mt. Guyot (6621 ft)
Date: July 4, 1997
Author: Ron Tagliapietra
Mt.Guyot is the highest peak in the East with no trail to the top and also a twofer (Sevier, TN).
The Appalachian Trail in Smoky Mountains NP comes closest to this remote giant.
Begin at Cosby Campground in Tennessee (NE part of the park).
Hike 5.3 miles to the Appalachian Trail via the steep Snake Den Ridge Trail.
Hike southbound on the AT for 1.8 miles just beyond the gap between Old Black and Mt. Guyot.
Bushwhack the ridge line a quarter mile to the false summit and another half mile to the
benchmark and cairn with views south. For more, see my book The Southern Sixers.
