Moore County Highpoint Trip Report

From NC 211 just east of the Montgomery/Moore county line go north on Old Barn
Road (SR 1280). At 0.2 mile there is a sand driveway on right and the first
area is from the front yard to the sandy pine forest southeast of the drive.
Lots of briars and, fortunately for me, dormant fire ant mounds.
The second area is just to the southwest near a field being re-claimed by pines
along with old home sites on a small ridge. I like one of the thickets of
Chinese Privet atop this ridge for high point. It appears higher than the first
area across the road but the contour is small enough to cover it all.
The third area is another 0.1 mile down Old Barn Road, turn left (west) on a
sand track. High point is behind fence for Candor WWTP but it is not posted and
there is a road through an open gate to the field. The highpoint is in the
open field with sprinklers.
Peter Barr mentioned a large plant/factory/warehouse near one of the high points.
There was a granary south of Old Barn Road and 211, but the topo does not show a
730-foot contour. I circled it anyway.
