Adams County High Point Trip Report
Whetstone Buttes - BM Whetstone (3,149 ft)
Date: October 24, 2001
Author: Michael Schwartz
From the eastern edge of Reeder on US 12, go north on 15th Street NW. Pavement ends at 6.7 miles.
Go left (west) at 7.7 miles onto a dirt road that would be fine in dry weather. It had rained the day before,
and in short order, my tires were coated with a layer of sticky mud that negated all traction.
I skidded about 3/4 miles west to the junction shown on the topo just west of spot elevation 2877.
From there I walked the roads to the base of the buttes, passed through a cattle pen area,
then climbed the butte. The true summit is on a 10-foot high, easily climbed, capstone.
The BM is just north of the capstone. It was 40 minute round trip.
Immediate area around the cattle pens is posted.
