I met a seeder who referred me to the owner, Mr. Jim Maier. Mr. Maier runs the grain elevator in Elgin (701 584-2660) and was very friendly. I was told that I could open the gate and drive all the way to the old farmstead. From here, the hike up Pretty Rock Butte is easy. The elevation of this benchmark was recently revised upward by the NGS by two feet, so now it is listed as 2859 feet above sea level.
