Gosper County Highpoint Trip Report
two areas (2,760+ ft)
Date: August 12, 2004
Author: Bob Schwab
This one can be approached either from the north (Route 23) or from the south (Drive 743) but it is
important to secure permission first. The owner's name is Douglas Gruber (not Gruver) and his phone
number is (308) 784-3282. I spoke with his daughter, Marsha Fike, who granted me permission to enter
from the north and hike south through the pasture.
Park along Route 23, 4.5 miles west of Elwood, next to a trailer and old school bus. There is a cow path of
sorts that runs the entire length of the ridge and just about crosses over the top of both sites.
The southern area is clearly higher.
The third area that Bob Martin mentioned in his report is actually a slight depression that wasn't drawn on
the topo map very well. You will pass it on your left if you hike in from the north as I did.
