I checked with the USFS -- even if you are coming from the east (Socorro, in our case),
the fastest way to the trailhead is to drive around to the west and approach through Mogollon
(rather than try dirt roads from the north).
Thanks to Scott Surgent for his write-up. It appears that the use trail from Hummingbird Saddle has been
beaten in a bit more since Scott was there in 2000. We were able to follow it easily all the way to the
summit cairn. It goes a bit farther south than you might expect near the summit but makes a hard left just in time
(I think it's avoiding downed trees at this point). There are many cairns to help keep you on the path.
No register found in the giant cairn at the summit.
