Doña Ana County High Point Trip Report

Camped near west base of peak, and got early start,
which was fortunate as it was a hot day.
Information in Herbert Ungnade's book was helpful in finding route,
which is essential for non technical groups. Fairly good "use trail"
gets you to within a few hundred feet of the summit. At top of Dark Canyon
drop over saddle about 60 paces to second gully down from summit.
One dicey step is needed while climbing up the right hand side of this gully.
Overall the route is a spectacular hike, the most "technical" of all NM counties.
Lots of ladybugs on top, we ate lunch in shade and tried not to mobilize the
clumps of bugs all around us.
