Dutchess County High Point Trip Report
Brace Mountain
Date: November 9, 1999
Author: Ron Tagliapietra
Use the trail map for the South Taconic Trail system. It shows the several turns
for road access and all trail junctions. The first junction is signed as 0.7 mi.
and is about half way to the summit. Another sign occurs where trail changes name
with distance to spur to Frissell (at this point you are almost there;
the several cairns before this mark trail route not HP). The trail reaches its
highest point at a large cairn, which is NOT the summit but marks a faint trace
extending a few yards to a spot with positioned rocks (ring? former cairn?) at the true summit.
The big cairn is just before the trail begins to descend. Note Riga Lake in CT to southwest
as you return.
