We followed directions in Scofield's "High Peaks of the Northeast" using the western approach. Park at the second signed trail head on hwy. 47 going south from Big Indian (private and fenced Lake Winooski is on the left at the top of the pass between these two trailheads). The nicely graded trail leads 2.7 miles to this highest Catskill summit. There is a slight downgrade after gaining the ridge, but it eventually ascends to a higher summit (rocks by concrete block) just before the favorite rocks (obviously lower) where everyone congregates to enjoy a view.
