Greene County High Point Trip Report

From US 42 at the Greene/Clark County Line, drive north for 1 mile to CR 351 (Selma Pike) and turn right (east).
Go 1 mile through Selma to the intersection with London Road. Turn left and follow London Road
for 0.8 mile to where it intersects with Wildman Road. The house to your right (7257 London Road) is in
Clark County, but the grassy field south of the house is where the high point of Greene County is located.
Roxanne Everett and Trapper Robbins reported that they were refused permission to cross this property this
past summer so access is an issue here. When I knocked at the house no one was home, so I continued east
on London Road for another 0.3 mile to the next farm drive (7490 London Road) and parked on the edge of
the road near some mailboxes.
I hiked west, back up the road to a field access point near the corner of two cornfields and then set out due
west across the western cornfield, heading toward the rise behind the house and shed. The fence lines do
not provide any clues as to the location of the county line so I used my GPS to keep me on course.
After crossing the cornfield and ascending the ridge, I found a place where an old tree has fallen down and made a
hole in the fence. I crossed through this fence hole into an adjoining hay field. There is a slight rise in this
small field about 100 or so feet west of the hole in the fence. On the day I visited, there was also a large
brush pile just south of the highest spot. A few hundred feet north is the edge of the back lawn of the nearby
house (7257 London Road), which seems to be the true county line.
Obviously, access to this highpoint would be simplified if the homeowner would grant permission to cross
through their backyard. Otherwise, you need to wait until the adjoining fields have been harvested to use my route.
