Lawrence County High Point Trip Report

Both of these points are in the Wayne National Forest. From Ironton, OH drive north on OH93 to its
junction with OH522. Drive south on OH93 for 2.0 miles and turn left onto Lawrence county road 4,
drive east 2.9 miles and turn left at Cannons Creek up Wolf Hollow Road. Take this road (make note of the
gravel road going right at 1.7 miles to the second area) for 1.8 miles and bear right, then turn left at 3.3 miles.
Go 0.2 mile west on this road and park on the left at Thompsons Cemetery. The highpoint is across
the road, about 150 feet west up the road, and 50-100 feet north of the road. This area has recently been logged,
and a large stump is at the highest area.
For the second area, return the same way by car for 1.8 miles and turn left onto the gravel road 100 yards to
Bowen Cemetery and park. The road here gets narrow and muddy. It is open to hikers all year,
and motorized vehicles most of the year. Hike east on the trail/road about 1/4 mile and pass a ravine on the right.
Just past this ravine, the main trail goes east (wrong way) but you want to turn south onto a grassy
track and follow the ridge about 1/4 mile to the highpoint with spot elevation 1061. We followed the grassy
track a few hundred feet until the ridge was more obvious, then bushwhacked to the ridge and followed deer
trails to the top. Don't give up too early here, as the highest point is past some thicker areas, but trails make
it easy going. It is a halfway clear area, and the ridge obviously starts dropping off after this.
