one area along the east county line (1,090+ ft)
From the intersection of US 22 and Ohio Route 56 on the east side of Circleville, drive northeast on US 22
for 5.65 miles to the intersection with Route 674. Turn north on Route 674 and proceed another 1 mile to a
crest in the road where you can see a horse track on your right. To the left is a nice house set back from the
road (mailbox #6409). Area 1 consists of a large contour that intrudes from the east and seems to slope
gradually downward as you go west from the highway. In fact, it appears that the highest spot may be in the
center of the highway, just north of the driveway. Find a place to park along here (I parked a bit south,
near three older houses on the east side of the road) and walk along the west side of the highway. Two of the
highest points I found were close to the highway, one near a telephone pole south of the driveway, and a
second one somewhat north of the driveway on a slight embankment. The land out in the cornfield is clearly
lower than the western edge of the road.
one small area 1 mile east of Tarlton (1,090+ ft)
From the intersection of Ohio Routes 56 and 159 in Leistville, proceed northeast 3.9 miles on Route 159 to
the town of Tarlton. At the stop sign in Tarlton (where Route 159 turns left (north), continue east on
Tarlton Road (Main Street). The road gently swings left up the hill, then heads east following the county line.
Proceed exactly 1 mile east from the stop sign and watch for mailbox #14483 off to your right just
before the road crests. Area 1 can be found in the front lawn of this grey house, which is screened from the
road by several large trees. The small highpoint is located in the lawn, over close to the fence, near the
neighbor's large metal barn. Don't be fooled by the new house and the large metal barn that you see when
you crest Tarlton Road. The true highpoint is west of this property and is not visible from the road.
I visited this site very early in the morning, so I didn't get the owner's name.
