Van Wert County Highpoint Trip Report

"one million points"

Not all who wander are lost -- some are county highpointers wandering around in fields! So go the adventures of a county highpointer in Ohio. After spending too much time wandering, I have a couple more OH county trip reports.

Actual count for this one is debatable. Andy's book lists 20 areas, Bob Schwab list 21 in his trip report. It's really just semantics, though, as the area in question may or may not touch the Van Wert-Auglaize county line. If it does touch, then it is two areas, otherwise it is one area.

For convenience, I'll use the same numbering system that Bob used in his report (which was very helpful) and I only have a few additional comments.

The area north and northeast of the woods in area 4 definitely feels like one of the highest areas to me.

The woods do not exactly match the topo for area 11, it is helpful to have coordinates when trying to pinpoint that area. The old RR right-of-way also makes going much easier.

For the eastern areas, I believe that the highest point is probably somewhere in area 17 or not too far from the post with the yellow collar.

I probably walked 2.5+ miles through these fields trying to hit every undulation. The last area near Mount Zion Church was much more to my liking despite the barking dogs at the farm house. It is much more prominent than the other areas.

I can't say for sure which areas are the highest but my feelings are that 4,17,18 and the Mount Zion Church area are probably good bets.
