Atoka County High Point Trip Report

Start at the OK 63 turnoff in Kiowa towards Pittsburg. Two miles east and then turn south to gain the crest
of Pine Mountain. I found the road I wanted gated.
There is a way around the gate, but I chose to use the bicycle I had brought along. Along the way, at about
3.5 miles, I saw lots of "Posted No Trespassing" signs. When I got on top of Pine Mountain, Atoka OK coHP,
1,260+ feet, 20 minutes later, I paused to look for the BM, elevation 1,273 feet. I found the reference
mark first, then the BM. It is about 35 feet east of the road, about 50 feet south of a power-line pole and is
marked by colored ribbon and by a three-foot high wooden post, such as you might find at State Park
parking lots, with a rounded top.
Access to all three HP areas is pretty easy. There are no "big rocks" at any of them to seek out -
just wander around.
