Cimarron County Highpoint Trip Report
Black Mesa (4,973 ft)
Date: March 23, 2002
Author: Carl Millsap
This was on a trip home from Missouri. It was a simple hike. I remember
thinking how nice it would be to cut straight for the summit instead of
following the trail around. Do heed the signs concerning rattlesnakes.
I didn't see any but I'm positive there are rattlesnakes in this country.
Once upon the mesa, there's still a jaunt to get to the actual summit.
It just seems like a long flat hike except for the portion that climbs
from the valley floor to the mesa. I enjoyed the stone monument
at the summit with distances as the crow flies to outlying states.
