McClain County High Point Trip Report
Date: September 2001
Author: John Garner
To reach this highpoint, drive southwest of Oklahoma City on I-44. Exit #107, U.S. 62 South. Proceed south for
1.3 miles into the town of Newcastle. Turn right (west) onto NW 16th Street. Proceed for 4.0 miles on this
semi-paved road, passing over I-44 (no exit) along the way. At 4.0 miles from US 62, turn left (south) onto
another unmarked section line road. At 0.7 mile along this road, turn left (east) onto a gravel road marked
NW 6th Street. Go up the hill; turn left into the parking area of a large metal barn and maintenance shed.
Lots of equipment lying around, and a few cars, but no one around. No "no trespassing signs"; no gate.
There were two candidates for the highest ground. The first is just northeast of the big barn, and the other is
about 200 yards north-northwest from the barn. I suspect the second area is the highest. To reach it, go left
around the barn, and follow the fence line. At the rear corner of this property, climb over a gate into a very
small fenced enclosure - this is the highpoint.
