Sherman County High Point Trip Report
unnamed point (3,000+ ft)
Date: May 1999
Author: Ken Jones
In 1997, it was possible to drive (without passing "No Trespassing" signs)
to within 100' of the "summit" from the north. However, the conditions have
since deteriorated, and a gate is closed.
As of 1999, we took a route which parks by the county line sign on U.S. 97.
Use a compass, and head east. You have a fence to cross at the edge of the
highway right-of-way - it's not posted, and I think it's to keep livestock
off the highway. With reasonable map-reading skills, you can find the roads
and buildings (collapsed) shown in the highpoint vicinity, and step on the
higher bumps around.
Note that we were tick-infested on our return to the car in May.
