Wasco County High Point Trip Report
unnamed point on side of Olallie Butte (6,280 ft)
Date: September 1, 2002
Author: Jeff Macey
Going down the cliff was a little scary for me. Very loose sandy ground and very steep.
When my GPS said 6280, I found a large (2 or 3 feet in diameter) round rock painted white. Took pictures
here as I couldn't see any reason for a painted rock out here except as highpoint or county intersection.
To match the GPS reading given on the Topo map, I had to go down and to the right of the painted rock and
circle around a little.
Going back up I slipped and started sliding, luckily my friend was ready and put out his trekking pole and I
caught it. Probably wouldn't have slid far because the sand was deep in that part, but that out of control
feeling was scary.
