Yamhill County High Point Trip Report

Trask Mtn (3,424 ft)

Date: March 1997
Author: Ken Jones

A typical Oregon Coast Range bump. Access may vary across privately owned forest lands.

From Yamhill, head west on Moores Valley Road, and pick up Oak Ridge Road, continuing westerly. At around Fairdale, pick up what DeLorme calls the Trask Toll Road. In this vicinity you will be entering a private timber company's tree farm (it's signed); when we were there it was open to the public for recreation.

The Trask Toll Road has a timber company numbering scheme, but it's also labelled "main line". It is usually obvious which road is the primary one. Follow it upward and trending westward; eventually it becomes the road labelled Trask Mountain Road in DeLorme. Near the crest of the range, you'll switch to smaller roads trending southerly toward the summit. The actual last 1/3 mile to the summit was blocked off where the road on the topo reaches the ridge and turns SE. It's a trivial walk to the top. All the driving was done in a Mazda 626.

This point has also been reached from Tillamook through a maze of logging roads; this route is not recommended.
