Bradford County Highpoint Trip Report
Armenia Mtn (2,440+ ft)
Date: September 11, 2005
Authors: Sue Ann Miller and Frank Price
Three deer greeted us as we drove north to stop between the towers on Armenia
Mountain along Alba Mountain Road. We arrived here using excellent information
of previous reports, despite our lack of Delorme reassurance. The field that
Michael Schwartz mentioned was not posted so we jumped the gate and walked along
the course of the gas line. The cluster of "knobs" just in the woods looked
man-made and a slight natural rise just northeast of the opening did not compete
with an area in the grass near the northeast corner and just outside of the
tower enclosure fence (mentioned by Michael Schwartz). That spot of bedrock and
ground laurel is our pick for the HP. As we stood there, it looked higher than
any spot in the tower enclosure or anywhere else in view. We walked both sides
of the road and along the tower enclosure but saw no need to violate prominent
posting. Stand on the laurel and rocks in the pipeline right-of-way and we
suspect you will agree.
We departed, continuing north on what is signed as Sweeney Road at the corner
with Fallbrook Road. Fallbrook Road is paved starting at the nearby Troy
township line and is an easy drive down to Route 14. It would be an easy way up.
We did not record miles but if you are driving south on 14 look for Fallbrook
Street in Troy on your right just after a Yamaha dealer after you pass the
elementary school.
Spotting a large black bear at dusk along US 6 topped off a fine three
county highpoint day.
