Cambria County Highpoint Trip Report
two unnamed areas (2,860+ ft)

Follow Mike Schwartz's directions to get to this area.
Although the map shows the high area as being largely in Cambria County,
I agree with Bob Packard's report. My GPS unit showed me at about the
county line and the land sloped gently westward, into Cambria County.
Bushwhacking through knee-high ferns was not especially fun.
They do lack thorns, but they also conceal many downed logs and trees.
I was trying to compass-hike back to the road I had walked in on but
it seemed to be taking an inordinately long time.
Finally I took out my GPS unit and discovered that I was southwest
of the high area, rather than northeast which is where I needed to be.
I had been reading the silver end of the compass needle as north.
When I got back to the motel that night I made myself write 100 times,
"The red end of the needle points north." Call me Pathfinder.

Again, follow Mike's directions. Schoolhouse Drive (not Lane) goes to Crescent Road,
which in turn leads you to Hollow Road. I thought areas about 200 yards
north and south of the road were perhaps a bit higher.
I especially liked the area south of the road where there were some spruces
that were twice as tall as the planted pines; this small grove may lie
on relatively undisturbed ground.
