Clearfield County High Point Trip Report

Chestnut Ridge (2,405 ft)

At the Shawville Post Office on PA 879, go north on SR 1008 (no sign at junction). Bear right at 2.3 miles onto Knobs Road (at this time there is a faint Knobs Road sign propped up on the ground at the corner). Turn left at T-intersection at 2.7 miles. Continue straight through crossroads at 3.5 miles. See Knobs Road sign alongside road at 4.8 miles for reassurance. Turn left at Chestnut Ridge Road at 7.8 miles. Turn right onto dirt road at 8.8 miles and reach summit at 9.0 miles. Microwave tower on top. Note: The prominent peak with a radio tower that you see coming up from Shawville is not Chestnut Ridge. Both that peak and Chestnut Ridge are visible from I-80 between exits 18 and 19.

1/4 mile south of Bloom Road (2,400+ ft)

From exit 18 off I-80, go south on PA 153 slightly more than 2 miles to a right turn onto US 322 west. Zero odometer. Go 2.5 miles and make a left onto unsigned Greenwood Road. Go left at 3.3 miles on unsigned Bloom Road to pullout at 3.5 miles. Walk south on grassy road about 200 yards, then take faint logging trail to the right. Using a mixture of game and logging trails, aim for the microwave tower near the summit. Highest ground is about 100 yards from the tower. The whole area is a mess of burnt and fallen snags.
