Cumberland County Highpoint Trip Report
spot elevation north-northeast of McKinney (2,270 ft)
Date: April 16, 2006
Author: Don Desrosiers
Started with Mike Schwartz's directions. I got slightly different distances
than did he but otherwise found things.
0.0 - Intersection of PA 997 and PA 696 north of Newville.
1.3 - Turn left onto Three Square Hollow Road.
2.1 - Continue onto Clay Hill Road.
3.4 - Road becomes gravel.
6.0 - Turn left at Cowpens Road. This should be 3 Square Hollow Road but it was unsigned.

About 1/2 - 3/4 mile on the right, pass monument to military aircraft crash from 1956.
7.8 - signed Blue Mountain Road on left.
Blue Mountain Road has been tamed and can easily be driven by all but the lowest
hanging vehicles until at least 300-400 yards from the HPs. Reasonable
clearance vehicles could drive all the way. I parked and walked because I have
put on too much tonnage and needed to exorcise it. Walked slightly less than 2
miles and felt the highest area was reasonably obvious.
About 35-40 minutes each way from the car.
