Lebanon County Highpoint Trip Report
spot elevation on Stony Mtn

Followed Mike and Fred's directions to the trailhead. My GPS indicated I was
either off the coast of Labrador, just west of Bogata, or somewhere in Laos (really),
so I pulled out the compass. I have learned not to argue with my
instruments but when they are arguing with themselves
(and losing the argument badly), I tend to discount their advice.
Walked along the dirt road until I was almost due south of the HP (where the
trail and the dirt road diverge). The trail is now the more open option
(and should be the Horseshoe Trail if my map is correct) so finding the old dirt road
took some looking. The dirt roads around "Mine" in "Gold Mine Run" have changed
somewhat but you should be able to figure things out since the stream has not
moved. Did a semi-bushwhack up this old (and overgrown) dirt road until the top
of the ridge, then northeast along ridge until the high point. From there I
took a bearing east-southeast back down through the woods, eventually hitting
the dirt road.
About 2-1/2 hours round trip. This is an interesting route but I would not
recommend it unless you are very comfortable following overgrown roads through
the woods. T he Horseshoe trail meets the Appalachian Trail, so that may be
another approach option.
