Northampton County Highpoint Trip Report
200 feet northeast of lookout on Blue Mtn
Date: June 12, 2004
Author: David Orsheski
Parking area for A.T. Trailhead is indicated by a faded wooden "Georgia to Maine" sign.
The highpoint is next to the unfenced radio shed beside the dirt road.
I tied some pink surveyor's tape to a shrub by the shed.
Walking down, we encountered numerous gates and warning signs advising prosecution for trespassers.
In fact, a building on the road was entirely fenced in, impeding any access around it.
We had to bushwhack our way around the fence to get through.
When we got home, I pulled a tick off of my wife's leg. I'm wondering if these security measures were set
up after 9/11, as there is a reservoir nearby. Aside from the tick, not a bad hike.
We saw six deer, hawks, chipmunks - even a turkey.
Hike statistics: total distance about six miles, total elevation gain 715 feet.
