Northumberland County Highpoint Trip Report
Boyers Knob and one area on Mahanoy Mtn (1,780+ ft)

Again, I followed Mike Schwartz's report, which I found to be quite accurate.
There are a number of roads in this area not shown on the topo but the right
turn at 1.5 miles mentioned by Mike is shown. Almost immediately there is a
left fork, also shown. I first parked at a grassy road and started hiking but
that headed gently downhill, so I returned to my car and found the correct road
to Boyers Knob. It could not driven by my car. I thought the high ground was a
short distance to the right rear of the fenced tower, as you approach from the road.
For the second area, I felt it prudent to park about 0.3 mile short of the
cleared area mentioned by Mike and walk from there. When you get to the cleared area,
stay on the right edge of it as you walk south toward the high ground.
As you enter the woods you'll pick up an old woods road which carries almost to the
crest of the western area and which makes the bushwhacking easier. Like Mike,
I thought that the hunter's stand was just about on the highest spot in the
eastern area.
