Pike County Highpoint Trip Report

1/2 mile east-northeast of Lake Russell (2,115 ft)
Difficult access situation. The approaches to this area are heavily posted and
two different neighbors warned us about the landowner. Assuming permission can
be obtained, one could park at the driveway shown on the topo about 1/10 mile
south of "Gravel Pit", where the owners are friendly.
From there gain the ridge line through open woods then work uphill through mixed
vegetation to an indistinct summit. We also discovered a gated grassy road that
begins just west of the signed Split Rock Road about 0.3 mile west of PA 447 on
Lake Russell Road. That road angles northwest and may take one near the summit.
It's worth investigating.
one point 1/2 mile northwest of Lake Jamie (2,100+ ft)
The trick here is to keep going and pass several intermediate knobs before
reaching the true highpoint contour. We did not find Dan Case's "crude cairn"
but did build a large and hopefully more long-lived cairn at the highpoint knob
as verified by GPS. The rise to the highpoint knob can be hard to spot through
the trees from the previous knob and GPS is a good security blanket.
